Concert program

Dmitri Šostakovitš: Symphony No. 7 in C Major, Op. 60, ”Leningrad”

Eighty years ago, the Siege of Leningrad pushed the former Tsarist capital to its very limits – but from unimaginable hardship emerged one of history’s most iconic musical war diaries. Dmitri Shostakovich took just a few months to compose his colossal Leningrad Symphony, a work that brought audiences to their feet in besieged Leningrad, and soon after in London and New York. Its unflinching, soldier’s-eye view of war resonates regardless of nation or political stance – much The Unknown Soldier in Finland.

Meet the artist at Paviljonki restaurant at 17.15. Discussion of the forthcoming concert.
