Jean Sibelius: Scaramouche Suite, Op. 71
Benjamin Britten: Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings, Op. 31

Ralph Vaughan Williams: Symphony No. 5 in D major

“Passionate, brilliant, expressive, powerfully flexible.” One of England’s most acclaimed opera stars, tenor Allan Clayton, comes to Oulu. Together with Oulu Sinfonia’s principal horn, Lauri Vasala, Clayton will perform Benjamin Britten’s Serenade, where the delicate moods of twilight are captured in the symbiotic duets of the soloists.

With his Fifth Symphony, Ralph Vaughan Williams sought to bring peace and order amid the chaos of the Second World War. The piece, which quickly gained widespread popularity, remains one of the composer’s most beloved works to this day. Scaramouche, a piece of stage music that belongs to the hidden gems of Jean Sibelius, is rarely heard in concert halls.

Head start at Restaurant Preludi at 18:00.
