André de Ridder, a specialist in modern music, takes up the most interesting songs of our time with Oulu Sinfonia.

The German Carola Bauckholt is one of the pioneers of experimental music. Her Atempause, completed in 2001, transforms the sound of breathing into a mechanical phenomenon. Sanna Ahvenjärvi’s and Tapio Lappalainen’s joint work, 2023 Teosto Prize winner Water moulds the various shapes and forms of the element into a musical art that feeds the imagination.

Veli Kujala has become one of the most celebrated names in Finnish music. The creation of his violin concerto was inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s fantasy short stories. Dedicated to the Oulu-born violinist Eriikka Maalismaa, the work has been praised as a cinematic experience disguised in the shape of a traditional concerto. The concert will be organized in co-operation with the Ostrobothnian Contemporary Music Festival.
