Concert program

Einar Englund: The White Reindeer
Joonas Kokkonen: Cello Concerto

Sergei Rachmaninoff: Symphony No. 2 in E minor, Op. 27

Jascha von der Goltz, the winner of the Jorma Panula Conducting Competition, makes his debut in Oulu with the programme that could not be more delightful. Einar Englund’s music from the classic Finnish horror film The White Reindeer resonates with northern mystique. The flowing melodies of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Second Symphony penetrate directly to the heart of human emotions.

Oulu Sinfonia’s solo cellist, Oliver Erlich, will masterfully perform Joonas Kokkonen’s only cello concerto. In the straightforwardness of the work, which was composed for Arto Noras and dedicated to Alvar Aalto, Kokkonen’s later style shines through, laying the foundation for his successful opera The Last Temptations.

Head start at Restaurant Preludi at 18:00.
