Tim Benjamin: There is Nothing Here (world premiere)
—
Grażyna Bacewicz: Symphony No. 3
Storyteller and composer Tim Benjamin is a master of styles, whose next move is impossible to predict. What is certain is that Oulu Sinfonia has the honour of presenting the world premiere of the British composer’s latest work. There is Nothing Here is a piece created to complement Jean Sibelius’s tone poem Luonnotar. Standing among Sibelius’s greatest achievements, Luonnotar is the composer’s boldest and most modern orchestral song, telling the story of the creation of the world. The soprano soloist for these works is Emma Mustaniemi. She initially studied singing at the Oulu University of Applied Sciences under Soile Isokoski and continued her studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, after which she earned her master’s degree from the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts
The musical legacy of 20th-century Poland was a success story, and its pioneer is finally receiving the recognition she deserves. Grażyna Bacewicz’s greatest and grandest work is a poetic, passionate, and grotesque symphonic manifestation. Adomas Morkūnas will conduct the concert as a guest of the Oulu Sinfonia.
Head start in Restaurant Preludi at 18:30. Discussion of the forthcoming concert.
