French Delicacies

The golden generations of French art music conjured up works that became world-renowned exports. While Claude Debussy found his way into the hearts of audiences with the powerful, wave-crashing force of La Mer, Paul Dukas’ hit the jackpot only after his death. Thanks to Disney’s Fantasia, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice has become one of the most beloved tone poems of all time.

From Erik Satie’s atmospheric Gymnopédie to Ernest Chausson’s misty Poème, Oulu Sinfonia and Chief Conductor Rumon Gamba will showcase the finest aspects of the French musical palette, with its subtle nuances. The concert will also feature the world premiere of Juha Pisto’s Poème, composed for concertmaster Mikko Sorri.
