Johannes Brahms: Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68
In the music of British composer Ruth Gipps, the rural idylls of the island nation are transformed into post-romantic tones in all the colours of a full orchestra. Her oboe concerto, completed in 1941, has only recently begun to receive the recognition it deserves. In Oulu, the concerto will be performed by Takuya Takashima, principal oboist of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra.
Elisar Riddelin, one of Finland’s rising conducting talents, debuts in Oulu with a programme that will culminate in a towering work of romanticism: Johannes Brahms’ stormy First Symphony, born of great effort under the shadow of Beethoven.
Head start at Restaurant Preludi at 18:00.
