The Oulu Symphony Orchestra invites applications for the permanent position of double bass player (tutti).
Oulu Symphony Orchestra is composed of 61 musicians and is the northernmost symphony orchestra in Finland. The Oulu Symphony Orchestra performs traditional symphony concerts, as well as a wide range of musical genres. Madetoja hall at the Oulu Music Center has 816 seats.
The task is to act as a double bass player in the symphony orchestra. The double bass player is expected to maintain his/her playing skills and carry out all other tasks within the area of responsibility.
The position requires excellent playing skills and good social interaction skills.
Bonuses for previous work experience shall be added to the pay in accordance with the Collective Agreement along with compensations for costume and musical instrument. In addition will be paid locally agreed media and media usage compensation.
The audition will be held on Monday the 20th of March 2023 starting at 10am (Finnish time) at the Madetoja Hall, Leevi Madetojan katu 1-3, Oulu, Finland.
Audition repertoire:
– 1st round:
Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf: Double bass concerto No 2 in D Major, 1st movement, Gruber cadenza
– 2nd round, the applicant may choose one of the following:
Giovanni Bottesini: Double bass concerto No. 2 in A minor, 1st movement with cadenza
or
Serge Koussevitzky: Double bass concerto Op.3, 1st movement
– Orchestral music excerpts, which are downloadable from Oulu Symphony Orchestra’s website starting 1st of February 2023.
Orchestral music repertoire will be sent as PDF to persons invited to audition after the closing date for submitting applications. All of the audition has to be performed in orchestra tuning (GDAE). Piano is tuned at A=442Hz.
The one who will be appointed to this position must submit a medical certificate for his/her state of health before accepting the position. The City of Oulu applies a probationary period of six (6) months in its permanent positions.
