Two Princesses

Love stories defying fate inspired Romantic composers to new heights. Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty became one of the most popular ballets of its time, while Selim Palmgren’s youthful work Cinderella remained the composer’s personal favourite until the end of his life.

The concert will feature the Finnish premiere of the award-winning John Harle’s saxophone piece Briggflatts, which transforms Basil Bunting’s mellifluous verses into vibrant music. The luminous saxophone star Jess Gillam, who has enchanted audiences in Oulu, makes a welcome return to Madetoja Hall.
