Variations on ”I Got Rhythm”
Porgy and Bess Symphonic Picture for Orchestra
George Gershwin was a pioneer who blazed a trail still bright across Western music today. He brought Broadway into the concert halls, introducing jazz through his Piano Concertos and married the sounds of swing to opera; he was a stadium concert superstar, a composer who sold millions of records, and a powerful advocate for African-American culture. Tonight, Oulu Sinfonia dedicates its evening to Gershwin through a selection of his most beloved works, including the Rhapsody in Blue and a symphonic suite from the opera Porgy and Bess.
The German Joseph Moog has been hailed as the most intriguing performer of his generation, as well as a musician whose performances evoke the golden age of the piano.
