It has been said that the journey into the music of Kaija Saariaho forces the traveller to meet both the deepest and most dazzling dimensions of one’s subconscious. From the electric vibrations of the spheres deep into the cellular sounds; Saariaho’s tones work their way to the places words can’t really describe. On Friday 14th October the Oulu Symphony Orchestra’s Chamber Musicians celebrate the most remarkable composer of our time, the award winner Kaija Saariaho, as she celebrates her 70th birthday.
The programme of the day describes the artist’s universe embracing art faithfully: the orchestra, divided into small chamber ensembles, offers glimpses of Saariaho’s music at several locations around the unique milieu of Pikisaari. The audience can visit the venues between 5 PM and 8 PM. Each concert is performed multiple times, allowing visitors to plan out their journey from one destination to another, stopping to immerse themselves in sound and find their own way towards new music – and the unknown. Sophomore students from the Oulu University of Applied Sciences dance instructor course join the musicians in the performance.
