This year, Oulu is the host of the Finnish National Viola Competition, held annually since 1991. The young artists who have made the finals have been given the choice of one of two Classical Viennese concertos to perform with the symphony orchestra. The concertos of Karl Stamitz and Franz Anton Hoffmeister both demonstrate the viola can serve as both the warm, beating heart of an orchestra as well as a solo instrument capable of a thousand tones.
The second work in the finals is an entirely new work for the viola and percussion, commissioned for the competition from Panu Savolainen.
Please notice, that the finals are on two days. The same ticket includes concerts on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd.
