Oulu Sinfonia

Founded in 1965, the legendary Oulu Opera brought beloved classics and Finnish premieres of stage music to audiences in the Pohjankartano Hall and later to the Oulu Theatre. In honour of this milestone anniversary, Oulu Sinfonia, conducted by Ville Matvejeff, presents some of the most unforgettable moments from the company’s history. The programme features arias and overtures from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Così fan tutte, Giacomo Puccini’s La Bohème, Charles Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, and Leevi Madetoja’s The Ostrobothnians, among others.

The spotlight falls on two luminous talents from the new generation of Finnish opera. Lyric tenor Tuomas Miettola charmed the Oulu audience with the opera The Magic Flute. He was awarded with 2nd Prize and Audience’s Favourite Prize in Havets Röst Singing Competition in 2023. Soprano Silja Aalto has performed actively both in Finland and abroad. Aalto is remembered in Oulu for her recent opera performances as the First Lady in The Magic Flute and as Leonore in Fidelio.
