Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 16 in D major, K. 451

Béla Bartók: Concerto for Orchestra, Sz. 116

The legendary Angela Hewitt continues her worldwide tour performing all of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s piano concertos as a complete cycle. In Oulu, she presents the effervescent Piano Concerto No. 16 in D Major, radiating youthful Viennese spirit. Belgium’s perhaps best-known contemporary composer, Frederik Devreese, made his name equally as a master of film music. His Benvenuta Suite pulses with decadence and fantasy, carried along by the rhythms of tango, habanera and waltz.

Béla Bartók transformed the music of Hungary into a gift for the entire world. His final – and by far most frequently performed – work is the Concerto for Orchestra, a landmark of neoclassicism. Striking solos pass from one instrument to the next for nearly forty minutes.

Head start at Restaurant Preludi at 18:00. Discussion of the forthcoming concert.

Oulu is the European Capital of Culture in 2026. Concerto for the Orchestra is part of the Oulu2026 cultural programme and the cultural climate change initiative.
