Harri Österman is mainly known to the Oulu concert audience as a part of the cello group of the Oulu Sinfonia, and in this first concert of the Oulu Sinfonia Chamber Musicians’ spring season we will get to know his compositional output. Österman’s musical language extends stylistically from medieval music to modern expression. The compositions heard today are mainly dark in tone and reflect the moods inspired by the literature of Homer and Franz Kafka. At the beginning of the concert, we will hear a piece based on a Baroque dance series tradition for a solo cello, but now exceptionally arranged for viola and continuo. This concert closely links literature and music, and is a unique example of symbiosis between the arts.
