Leevi Madetoja: Piano Trio Op. 1
Our second chamber music program, in tune with some of the symphonic programs of these weeks, contributes to the celebration of Leevi Madetoja on the fortieth anniversary of our beautiful hall. It begins with the oboe sonata in G minor by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, with palpable emotional richness.
Next, we arrive in Finland with Olli Mustonen’s music that often seeks bridges between different eras, places and styles, and offers in his Cello and Piano Sonata moments of great intimacy and transparency, and others of explosive energy.
Then, we will step back in time with Toivo Kuula’s Violin and Piano Sonata in F major. Kuula, who was active in Oulu in 1910 and 1911, was friends with Leevi Madetoja, and they both shared the same sources of inspiration.
Finally, we journey back home with Leevi Madetoja’s Piano Trio, within which listeners will be able to find all the possible musical, emotional and imaginative references that resonate in relation to our brilliant fellow citizen’s music.
