Conductor sensation Nil Venditti brings the wonders of Italy to Oulu. The symphonic overture by Giacomo Puccini, composed as his graduation work, is sheer beauty. Melodies steeped in wistfulness hint at the passions that would later blaze in Tosca and La Bohème.
Finland’s newest double bass star, Maria Krykov, principal of the Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra, visits Madetoja Hall to perform Giovanni Bottesini’s Double Bass Concerto – a dazzling virtuosic showpiece that earned its composer the nickname ”the Paganini of the double bass”.
