Concert program

Frédéric Chopin: Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor, Op. 11

Mieczysław Karłowicz: Symphony in E minor, Op. 7 ”Rebirth”

Michał Nesterowicz has established himself as a guest conductor with some of the world’s finest orchestras. He returns to Oulu after a two years, this time as an authority on Polish music.

In the face of great powers, Poland crystallized its national identity, and is renowned for its composers. The most significant among them was Frédéric Chopin, the poet of the piano, whose melodies speak the language of love. The young Ossi Tanner’s signature piece, Chopin’s Piano Concerto in E minor, is especially remembered for its slow movement, which the composer described as ”a reflection of warm feeling and joy, born of gazing at a beloved landscape on a moonlit spring night”.

Mieczysław Karłowicz’s rise as the brightest star in Poland’s cultural sky was tragically cut short at the age of just 32. His 1902 symphony, influenced by the lush style of Pjotr Tchaikovsky, carries Karłowicz’s own heroic tale, where the struggles culminate in the spiritual rebirth of both the individual and the nation.

Head start at Restaurant Preludi at 18.00. Discussion of the forthcoming concert.
