Stormskerry Maja

Stormskerry Maja is a touching story about a strong woman and the challenges she faces on a stormy island in the late 19th century. Young Maja marries fisherman Janne against her will. Life is full of challenges and setbacks: as a fisherman’s wife, she must cope with her husband’s long absences at sea and take care of her family alone. However, Maja has become a strong-willed and independent woman, who shares a strong connection and a love deepening over time with Janne.

The cinematic experience deepens further when the live orchestra provides the soundscape. In the film concert, Lauri Porra’s music resonates strongly throughout the film directed and written by Tiina Lymi, which premiered in January 2024. The experience is complemented by the iconic theme composed by Lasse Mårtenson from the 1976 television series Stormskärs Maja.
