Johannes Brahms Piano Quartet No. 1 in G minor, Op. 25 [40’]
arr. Arnold Schönberg
Johannes Brahms left a legacy of four great symphonies, and Arnold Schönberg’s opulent orchestral arrangement of the dramatic quartet in G minor could well be the fifth. Mosaics, the newest orchestral work by Outi Tarkiainen, who is at the moment the most talked-about Finnish composer internationally, was commissioned by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and will now be performed in Finland for the very first time due to the fact that the Oulu-based orchestra participated in commissioning the piece. The piece portrays a musical mosaic of Virginia Woolf’s book A Room of One’s Own. The charisma-filled international star bassoonist Bram van Sambeek will perform as the soloist in Jaakko Kuusisto’s concerto.
